Ruth Benca, MD, PhD

Dr. Benca is a professor of psychiatry at the University of Wisconsin SMPH. Dr. Benca is a past president of the Sleep Research Society and the Associated Professional Sleep Societies and has served on the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. She is board certified in psychiatry and certified by the American Board of Sleep Disorders Medicine. Dr. Benca's research has focused on several aspects of sleep behavior, including the acute effects of light cycles on sleep and wakefulness, effects of sleep deprivation,  and the relationship between sleep abnormalities and psychiatric disorders, in particular the effects of sleep on mood regulatory systems. Her clinical interests include sleep problems associated with psychiatric disorders.
